THE ADVENTURES OF SHIRLEY HOLMES

Twelve-year-old Shirley Holmes, the great-grandniece of the world famous detective Sherlock Holmes, is determined to become the World's Greatest Detective. And like her ancestor she is brilliant and eccentric. Shirley must solve mysteries. It is her passion - and the dark corners that we all like to avoid are the very places she wants to be.

Shirley's (initially unwilling) "sleuthing" partner is thirteen-year-old Bo (short for Boris, but don't call him that) Sawchuk. They met in an after-school detention. It was Bo's first day at the prestigious private school Sussex Academy, and already he'd got into trouble. Shirley was in detention for tardiness - late for school because she was investigating a recent series of arsons in Redington. Shirley lives in Redington, the nation's capital, with her father and grandmother Peggy Holmes. Her mother Joanna, a world respected virologist, dissappeared three years ago in Rwanda while investigating a deadly virus for the the World Health Organization. She is presumed dead. But Shirley knows there is a chance - just a chance - that her mother might still be alive. And there is Molly Hardy - Shirley's nemesis. She is as clever and brilliant as Shirley, but her only passion is status and power...

It is amidst this background of family, friends and enemies that Shirley Holmes uncovers mysteries old and new.
