The Family Restaurant follows the bundle of bossy energy Amy Quon, her husband and three adult children, as they run their two wildly popular Chinese eateries—one an elegant, old-world Mandarin dining room, the other a Chinese chicken-themed fast food lunch counter.  Amy’s dated business style often leads to a generation clash with her modern-minded children, as hefty portions of sibling rivalry and generational struggles are served up in The Family Restaurant.

Chefs are passionate about two aspects of their profession–how they cook and the ingredients they use. This series shows how the relationship between chef and supplier is revolutionizing what we eat. Whether it’s foraging in the woods searching for edible flowers to add to a salad or visiting a local farmer whose methods of farming and ranching honour the land, viewers will discover that behind every plate is an adventure.

Experienced hosts Anna Wallner and Kristina Matisic (The Shopping Bags) put popular cookbooks to the test. In each episode, they try out and review recipes, ingredients, appliances and food preparation techniques to see if the average cook can re-create the beautifully photographed meals. At the end of the show, a guest chef gives a final evaluation of the meal and decides if the cookbook delivers the goods.
